ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY & STRATEGIC INITIATIVES Public Service Commission Kenya (PSCK) invites qualified professionals to join our Nairobi headquarters in this pivotal leadership role. As Assistant Director for Environmental Policy & Strategic Initiatives, you will drive Kenya's environmental governance agenda through strategic policy coordination and high-impact project leadership. ABOUT THE ROLE You will serve as a key player in shaping how environmental and natural resources policies are developed, implemented, and monitored across Kenya's public sector. Your work will directly influence the alignment of environmental initiatives with Kenya's evolving ecological challenges and national priorities. This is a full-time position requiring eight hours of daily commitment and substantial strategic thinking. YOUR CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Your day-to-day impact will include coordinating partnerships and collaborative efforts that advance environmental policy development and review. You will oversee research initiatives designed to inform robust environmental legislation, ensuring policies adapt to current and emerging environmental realities. A significant portion of your role involves mainstreaming environmental considerations into sectoral policies across government. You will lead the critical work of monitoring, reviewing, and verifying how well environmental and natural resources policies are being implemented. This includes evaluating environmental programmes and projects, establishing systems for knowledge management, and identifying ways to strengthen resource mobilization for environmental initiatives. You will participate in steering committees for national and regional environmental programs while supervising implementation of cross-sector collaboration efforts. Strengthening intergovernmental relations between national and county governments is essential to your mandate. You will develop project reports, concept notes, and proposals that attract funding, while designing and implementing comprehensive monitoring and evaluation frameworks for strategic initiatives. YOUR QUALIFICATIONS You must hold a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Law, Chemical and Biological Sciences, Natural Resource Sciences, or an equivalent recognized qualification. You bring a minimum of three years' professional experience at Principal Environmental Policy and Strategic Initiatives Officer level (CSG Grade 8) or in a comparable relevant position within Kenya's public service. Where applicable, you hold current membership in a recognized professional body. Your work performance history demonstrates clear merit and measurable results.
