Job Description
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT & RESEARCH INTERN – NAIROBI
Company: Bankers Without Boundaries
About the Organisation
Bankers Without Boundaries is a pioneering force in global finance, operating as an investment banking, asset management and advisory firm dedicated to generating measurable impact for both the environment and society. Since its establishment in 2013, the organisation has grown into a respected not-for-profit venture, staffed by seasoned investment banking professionals and supported by operations across Ireland, the United Kingdom and Singapore. BwB partners with governments, institutional investors, corporate clients, high net worth individuals, cities and foundations across the globe to address the world's most critical environmental and social challenges through innovative financial solutions.
The Role
We are looking for a Business Development & Research Intern to strengthen our bid response and business development team. Based in Nairobi with a full-time remote working arrangement, you will collaborate directly with BwB's senior leadership and business development specialists to help shape and execute our growth strategy. This is an opportunity to make a tangible impact while developing your professional skills across a diverse range of financial and development projects.
Over the course of this six-month internship starting late August 2026, you will engage in meaningful work spanning proposal development, market research, client engagement support and strategic analysis. Your contributions will help identify and unlock new partnership and funding opportunities across the sustainable finance landscape.
Your Responsibilities
You will design and scope new sustainable finance proposals and responses to competitive bids in areas including clean energy, sustainable transport, climate-aligned debt instruments, nature-based solutions and public finance mechanisms. Research forms a core part of your work — you will investigate funding opportunities, examine donor priorities and analyse institutional landscapes encompassing government procurement processes, development finance institutions and climate finance vehicles.
Creating high-quality research memoranda and analytical briefings for senior leaders will be a key deliverable, synthesising funder priorities, emerging sector trends and partnership opportunities. You will develop compelling proposal narratives, articulate theories of change and construct strategic frameworks to strengthen our bidding position. You will also produce presentations and supporting documentation to facilitate partnership discussions and client engagement activities.
Managing and maintaining business development pipelines will fall within your remit, tracking BD activity across different geographies and funding windows. Throughout, you will need to manage multiple workstreams effectively, meeting rigorous quality standards whilst adhering to strict timelines.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate brings excellent interpersonal abilities and strong communication skills, with a genuine passion for sustainable development and a clear understanding of finance's role in driving positive change. You are self-motivated with a genuine appetite to learn and build professional capabilities. Your ability to work independently whilst producing accurate, timely deliverables is essential, as is your capacity to manage complex timelines.
We value team players who can thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and readily embrace new challenges. Experience or demonstrated proficiency in research and presentation development would strengthen your application. Fluency in English is essential, while proficiency in a second language is highly desirable.
Essential Qualifications
You should be a recent graduate with an academic background ideally in Sustainable Finance, Climate Change or International Development. Full proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint is required.
Other Requirements
All candidates must be based in Nairobi with a home office setup capable of supporting full-time remote working.
