Job Description
CONSULTANT – REGIONAL DISASTER RISK AND PREPAREDNESS ASSESSMENT
Job ID: 277190
Organization: Urban Resilience Hub by UN-Habitat's CRGP
ABOUT THIS ROLE
You will serve as a specialized consultant driving a comprehensive regional disaster risk and preparedness assessment across West Africa. This role demands strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement expertise, and a deep understanding of disaster risk management frameworks. You'll produce actionable insights that inform resilience-building strategies across the ECOWAS region.
KEY DELIVERABLES
Your work will culminate in three critical outputs. First, you'll develop an Inception Report establishing the methodological framework—outlining the assessment approach, analytical tools, regional risk overview, and a detailed workplan for conducting the in-country evaluation. Second, you'll complete a structured analysis of existing risk assessments and information tools operational in West Africa, undertaking field missions to assess current capacities, pinpoint critical data gaps, and document best practices in data management, interagency coordination, and early warning systems. Third, you'll prepare a comprehensive Regional Disaster Risk Overview covering the ECOWAS zone with particular attention to transboundary risk implications. This overview will integrate gender and disability dimensions throughout and be validated through intensive stakeholder consultations and participatory workshops, ensuring community feedback shapes final recommendations for strengthening assessment accuracy and regional relevance.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
The ideal candidate brings demonstrated expertise in disaster risk assessment methodologies, proven experience coordinating multi-stakeholder regional initiatives, and strong knowledge of West African risk landscapes. You should excel in qualitative and quantitative analysis, possess excellent report writing capabilities, and demonstrate cultural competency in diverse institutional environments.
WORK ARRANGEMENT
This is a consultant-based engagement. The position is based remotely with expected field missions throughout the ECOWAS region.

This is a fee-free opportunity. No application fees are required or accepted.
