Job Description
GESI, Protection & Safeguarding Advisor — Border Security Programme
About This Role
Mercy Corps, a globally recognized organization dedicated to creating meaningful change in over 40 countries worldwide, is recruiting a GESI, Protection & Safeguarding Advisor to support the Border Security Programme (BSP), funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
The Challenge
Irregular migration and organized criminal activity across East Africa present an increasingly complex threat, with vulnerable migrants facing severe exploitation throughout their journeys. The Border Security Programme addresses this multifaceted crisis through an integrated strategy spanning prevention, preparation, protection, and prosecution of human traffickers and smugglers who prey on at-risk populations.
Your Contribution
You will be a key member of the team driving the protection and safeguarding agenda within BSP. Your expertise in Gender Equality, Social Inclusion, and Protection will ensure that all programme interventions center human rights, dignity, and the specific needs of vulnerable migrants. Working primarily across Kenya's border regions during the initial implementation phase, you will embed safeguarding principles into programme design, operations, and partnerships while championing inclusive approaches that protect marginalized communities.
What We're Looking For
You bring demonstrated experience in protection frameworks, safeguarding policy, and gender equality work within humanitarian or development contexts. You combine technical expertise with strong advocacy skills, possess cultural competency for East African contexts, and have proven ability to influence organizational practice around protection standards. Your communication skills enable you to work effectively across diverse stakeholders—from government partners to affected communities.
To Apply
Qualified candidates are encouraged to submit their application directly to Mercy Corps through the advertised position portal.
