Job Description
INVESTMENT AND PORTFOLIO ASSOCIATE AT ACCION VENTURES
Sokify connects you with opportunities that matter. This position brings you into the world of impact-driven venture investing, working with Accion Impact Management, the investment platform transforming financial inclusion through strategic capital deployment in early-stage fintech companies.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Accion Ventures invests in pioneering fintech startups across emerging markets—Africa, Latin America, Asia, and the United States. The organization has successfully backed over seventy early-stage companies across five continents, demonstrating that high-impact businesses can also deliver strong financial returns. As an Investment and Portfolio Associate based in Nairobi, Kenya, you will be instrumental in supporting our global investment professionals while building your own expertise in venture capital within the inclusive fintech ecosystem.
This is an entrepreneurial position offering significant ownership and exposure to deal evaluation, financial analysis, market research, and the operational realities of scaling early-stage companies. You will work directly with the Operating Partner of Accion Ventures, receiving mentorship and guidance as you develop a career in impact-focused investing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Your work will span three core areas: investment due diligence, research and strategy development, and portfolio management support. In the diligence function, you will manage deal sourcing and screening, conduct financial analysis and modeling, perform market and company research, prepare investment memoranda, and support transaction processes across target regions. You will help the investment team evaluate opportunities and track potential deals throughout their lifecycle.
You will also contribute to building investment theses by conducting sector analyses, competitive landscape reviews, and market research. Your findings will be synthesized into clear presentations that shape the team's investment strategy.
On the portfolio side, you will assist with post-investment activities including monitoring portfolio performance, developing strategic recommendations for portfolio companies, and engaging directly with founders to tackle operational challenges and identify growth opportunities.
WHAT YOU BRING
You have a bachelor's degree and two to five years of professional experience in venture capital, private equity, investment banking, management consulting, financial analysis, or technology startups. Two years at a top-tier consulting firm is strongly preferred. You are experienced in client-facing roles—ideally with early-stage founders—where you have scoped and developed strategic or operational plans that deliver measurable results.
Your analytical capabilities are sharp. You excel at financial modeling, data analysis, and research. You manage multiple workstreams without losing attention to detail, and you communicate complex findings clearly in writing and presentations. Your computer skills are advanced across Microsoft Office suite applications.
You bring genuine passion for entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, and market-based solutions to poverty. You thrive in diverse, collaborative environments and are genuinely interested in Accion's mission and emerging markets development.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working within startups or growth-stage enterprises, particularly in emerging markets, strengthens your candidacy. Domain expertise or strong interest in financial services, fintech, payment systems, or mobile money is valuable. Fluency in languages beyond English is an advantage. Your management consulting experience may span any sector—we value diverse industry exposure.
TRAVEL
Be prepared to travel regionally and internationally up to twenty percent of the time.
