Job Description

LEAD - ENDING CHILD MARRIAGE Plan International ABOUT THE ROLE Plan International is seeking a strategic and influential leader to drive our global flagship initiative focused on ending child marriage and advancing adolescent girls' rights, wellbeing, and agency. This is a unique global leadership position at the forefront of one of the world's most pressing gender equality challenges. In this role, you will define and lead an ambitious, evidence-based approach that tackles the root causes of child marriage including harmful gender norms, poverty, gender-based violence, and limited access to education, health and economic opportunities. You will work across a global network to align teams, influence partners and donors, and strengthen Plan International's position as a leader in protecting girls' futures across both development and humanitarian contexts. YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Set and drive the global vision, strategy, and ambition for the flagship initiative while leading resource mobilisation and building strong donor and partner relationships. You will provide thought leadership and external representation on child marriage and girls' rights issues, shaping compelling global narratives, advocacy positioning, and ensuring integrated, girl-centred programming across protection, sexual and reproductive health and rights, education, gender-based violence prevention, and economic empowerment. Your role will involve working across a matrixed organisation to align global, regional, and country teams while championing the use of evidence, learning, and innovation to maximise impact. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR You bring deep expertise in child marriage, adolescent girls' rights, and gender equality with a strong understanding of the root causes and consequences of child marriage across diverse contexts. You have demonstrated experience leading or shaping integrated, multi-sector programmes in complex or resource-constrained settings, with a proven ability to translate evidence into strategy, advocacy, and funding opportunities. You are a skilled external representative with a strong track record in partnership development and influencing, and you excel at leading through influence in global, matrixed organisations. Above all, you are a strategic, collaborative leader who can navigate complexity and drive alignment. LOCATION This position offers flexible working location options. Nairobi, Kenya is preferred, though other locations where Plan International maintains an office with capacity to employ on behalf of the Global Hub can be considered, provided you have pre-existing right to work and live in that location. ABOUT PLAN INTERNATIONAL Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation advancing children's rights and equality for girls across more than 80 countries for over 85 years. We believe in the power and potential of every child and work to tackle the root causes that suppress this potential through poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. Working with children, young people, supporters and partners, we drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels to create a just world where all are equal.
