MECHANICAL SPECIALIST – MARS SNACKING Location: Nairobi, Kenya About the Role Mars Snacking is seeking an experienced Mechanical Specialist to join our Nairobi facility. In this position, you will oversee the execution and delivery of comprehensive maintenance programs across our site equipment and facilities. Your expertise will be vital in sustaining and continuously enhancing the operational performance and reliability of our plant machinery. You will support production operations through the delivery of preventive maintenance initiatives while upholding our unwavering commitment to Quality, Food Safety, Health, and Environmental standards. What We're Looking For We need a professional with a minimum of five years of direct hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance systems within industrial environments. You should demonstrate outstanding troubleshooting capabilities and strong technical aptitude. A Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent qualification is required. You must be fluent in English and possess excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within team settings. Flexibility to work day and night shifts as operational needs demand is essential. You should bring a proactive maintenance mindset, superior problem-solving abilities, and proven familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). Your Key Responsibilities You will perform expert troubleshooting and diagnostic work to repair diverse mechanical systems including Gear and Power Transmissions, Drives, Motors, Hydraulics, and Pneumatics. When production line breakdowns occur, you will respond promptly to minimize operational disruption while partnering with engineering teams to identify and execute sustainable process improvements. You will establish and continuously review Preventive Maintenance and Autonomous Maintenance frameworks, and develop our Condition Based Maintenance strategy. Your role includes supervising contractors and suppliers to guarantee adherence to safety and quality benchmarks, whilst developing team capability through coaching and mentoring of colleagues. You will also develop and maintain the mechanical spare parts inventory in alignment with our overall maintenance strategy.
