Job Description
OPERATIONS OFFICER
World Bank Group
About the Role
As an Operations Officer with the World Bank Group, you will play a vital role in driving private sector development across Kenya and the broader Eastern African region. This position sits at the intersection of policy, investment, and advisory work, where you will support the design and implementation of transformative projects that unlock opportunities for private sector growth.
Your Key Responsibilities
You will support business development initiatives by working across World Bank Group entities to understand client and market needs. You will actively participate in high-level meetings with government and private sector stakeholders, offering technical guidance and monitoring the implementation of critical reforms that enable private investment.
Your work will ensure the delivery of exceptional project supervision and completion documents while maintaining rigorous quality standards across client outputs. You will collaborate with teams across the World Bank and IFC to identify the reforms necessary for market expansion and work with upstream teams to maximize impact.
A significant portion of your role involves overseeing the advisory portfolio in Kenya and potentially across other Eastern African countries, ensuring consistency and quality of approach. You will support senior management engagement with government and private sector leaders to enhance organizational visibility and impact.
You will facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions throughout the region, commission and support research and diagnostic work that advances understanding of client needs, and contribute to pushing the boundaries of how the organization approaches policy dialogue. Resource management for effective project delivery will also fall within your scope.
Required Qualifications
You hold a Master's degree in Law, Economics, Business, Finance, or a closely related discipline, or possess an equivalent professional certification. You bring at least five years of professional experience in private sector development, with demonstrated success delivering private sector-focused reform projects and advisory engagements.
Your background includes a strong track record of engagement with government clients, ideally with hands-on experience designing and implementing public policy initiatives that support private sector advancement. Knowledge of IFC and World Bank Group products and instruments is essential, with demonstrable experience working across these platforms being highly advantageous.
You have the capacity to conceptualize research and analytical initiatives that open new markets or reshape thinking on thematic approaches to better serve organizational mandates. You are proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with a strong aptitude for learning new systems and tools. Project management system experience is a valuable addition to your skill set.
You communicate with excellence both in writing and verbally, deliver compelling presentations, and are fluent in English.
