Job Description

PARTNERSHIPS OFFICER, P-2, FULL-TIME POSITION #23383 UNICEF Sudan (Based in Nairobi, Kenya) ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW UNICEF operates across more than 190 countries and territories, dedicated to protecting children's rights, saving lives, and enabling every child to reach their full potential from infancy through their teenage years. Working at UNICEF means joining a mission-driven organization committed to creating meaningful change for vulnerable children and communities worldwide. We cultivate a workplace culture that values diversity, encourages professional growth, and provides competitive compensation alongside comprehensive benefits. THE CHALLENGE Sudan faces a humanitarian crisis that threatens millions of children. With 16 million children requiring urgent assistance, the conflict is destabilizing the nation's future and reverberating across the entire region. UNICEF maintains its presence in Sudan, implementing a coordinated strategy that combines humanitarian relief, development initiatives, and peacebuilding efforts. This three-layered approach focuses on delivering lifesaving services in crisis zones, supporting displaced and host communities in less affected areas, and strengthening basic service systems across all states to build long-term resilience. THE ROLE Reporting to the Public Partnership Specialist for Development Portfolio, you will serve as a crucial bridge between UNICEF Sudan and its development partners, including international financial institutions and bilateral agencies like KfW and BMZ. Your mission is to expand UNICEF Sudan's partnership network and resource base while ensuring efficient, effective, and transparent program delivery. You will coordinate with multiple sections within UNICEF Sudan, the World Bank Project Management Unit, and field offices throughout the country. In addition, you may represent specific donor portfolios internally. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES You will execute assigned work plans with focus on timely, cost-effective results delivery aligned with UNICEF's partnership strategy. This includes building and sustaining partnerships through developing partnership standards, formulating strategies, and creating relevant guidance frameworks. You will draft and review partnership agreements and amendments, ensuring full compliance with UNICEF policies and regulations before submission for approval. Your analytical work involves tracking partner engagement patterns and funding trends, analyzing development assistance policies, and maintaining current partner profiles and resource information. You will support your supervisor in cultivating productive relationships with government representatives, UN counterparts, NGOs, host authorities, and other stakeholders, keeping them informed about critical strategic and operational matters affecting UNICEF's work. Meeting attendance represents a significant part of your role. You will participate in sessions with UN bodies, multilateral organizations, NGOs, member states, and government officials, documenting discussions and amplifying UNICEF's visibility while protecting organizational interests. You will identify opportunities to strengthen collaboration with other UN agencies, developing synergies that enhance program effectiveness and efficiency. Communication and advocacy form another core function. You will prepare materials explaining UNICEF's program strategy, design, relevance, and impact to government officials, UN agencies, NGOs, and other partners. You will systematically gather feedback and insights from these stakeholders regarding program activities and priority concerns, then share this intelligence with relevant UNICEF teams to inform decision-making and future initiatives. Additionally, you will collect and coordinate UNICEF inputs for inter-governmental and inter-agency forums, ensuring UNICEF's positions are clearly presented and appropriately weighted in discussions. You will maintain current knowledge of UN activities, multilateral initiatives, and political developments, analyzing potential consequences for UNICEF operations and providing timely assessments to guide organizational strategy.
