Job Description
Program Analyst
United Nations Volunteers - East and Southern Africa
About the Role
UN Women stands as the United Nations' dedicated force for gender equality and women's empowerment. Operating across the globe, the organization works to dismantle discrimination against women and girls while ensuring equal participation and opportunity in development, humanitarian response, peace, and security initiatives.
As we commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 2025, UN Women is intensifying collaboration with young people, adolescent girls, and youth-led organizations to accelerate gender equality progress worldwide. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, the Program Analyst will be instrumental in supporting the Civil Society Division's mission to drive youth engagement, foster partnerships with youth and girl-led organizations, generate knowledge, and facilitate meaningful youth participation in global and intergovernmental forums.
What You'll Do
Youth Engagement and Program Implementation
You will facilitate outreach efforts connecting with young people and adolescent constituencies. Your work will contribute to rolling out youth-centered initiatives while developing knowledge resources that highlight youth participation in gender equality efforts. You'll help amplify young people's meaningful involvement in multi-stakeholder and intergovernmental decision-making processes.
Civil Society Relations and Partnership Building
Engaging with youth-led and girl-led organizations forms a cornerstone of this role. You will coordinate consultations, meetings, and collaborative sessions with youth groups, strengthening networks among organizations to improve communication and coordinated action. Your focus will be on cultivating partnerships that drive gender equality and women's empowerment forward.
Research, Knowledge Development and Messaging
You will produce briefing materials, analytical papers, and background documents that inform the Civil Society Division's work. Creating and disseminating knowledge products and communications that showcase youth engagement achievements and program success will be central to your contributions. You'll also document lessons learned and best practices that strengthen organizational knowledge.
Program Safeguarding and Coordination
Supporting the execution of safeguarding strategies for youth and adolescent programs is essential. Coordinating activities with internal and external stakeholders, tracking program progress, and organizing workshops, meetings, and engagement events will fall within your purview.
Volunteerism and Collaborative Learning
You will embody and promote voluntary service principles through active engagement in UNV activities. Contributing articles, success stories, and communications showcasing volunteer experiences while supporting knowledge-exchange initiatives with colleagues and partners demonstrates the broader impact of this work.
