Job Description
PROGRAMME SPECIALIST
United Nations Volunteers
About This Opportunity
Sokify brings you a United Nations Volunteers assignment supporting UNICEF's Regional WASH programme, a transformative Global Water Partnership initiative. This flagship project operates across Ethiopia, Somalia, and Sudan in fragile and conflict-affected contexts, working in partnership with UNHCR, national governments, private sector players, and academic institutions.
The programme tackles critical challenges through climate-resilient, cost-effective water, sanitation and hygiene systems that strengthen sustainable utilities while fostering social cohesion among refugees, internally displaced persons, and host communities. A flagship component features Regional Managed Aquifer Recharge pilots—notably in Dollow, Somalia—designed to boost groundwater storage and build drought resilience across the region.
What You'll Do
As Programme Specialist, you will be the backbone of programme delivery, ensuring effective management, technical excellence, and timely implementation of regional WASH and Prospects programme activities. Your work will maintain alignment with approved workplans, budgets, donor expectations, and Environmental & Social Safeguards standards while building stronger partnerships and institutional capacity across the region.
Your core responsibilities include supporting day-to-day implementation activities, coordinating with country offices to track progress and address risks, and contributing to situation analyses and annual planning cycles. You will conduct technical reviews of designs, terms of reference, procurement documents, and deliverables while ensuring Environmental & Social Safeguards compliance. You'll strengthen partner and government capacity through targeted training and knowledge exchange activities.
You'll support robust monitoring and evaluation systems, participate in field missions, and contribute to donor reports and results-based documentation. Capturing best practices and lessons learned will be central to your role, as you support learning communities and collaborate with evaluation, communications, and partnerships teams. You will drive policy analysis, track action points with country offices and partners, and strengthen collaboration across UN agencies, governments, the private sector, and academic institutions.
Your Profile
You hold a Master's degree in Water Engineering, Environmental Engineering or Sciences, Civil Engineering, or a closely related WASH field. You bring at least seven years of professional experience in programme implementation, coordination, monitoring, and reporting, with demonstrated expertise in WASH or related sectors within development or humanitarian-development nexus contexts.
English fluency is essential. Working knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
What You'll Receive
As a UN Volunteer, you will serve full-time in your professional capacity supported by a comprehensive benefits package. Your monthly Volunteer Living Allowance ranges from US$3,830 to US$4,280, calibrated to ensure a secure standard of living at your duty station. This allowance supports your well-being rather than serving as compensation or salary for your service.
