ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY
Sokify is partnering with Scientific Research Corporation to recruit an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer for a critical infrastructure project in Nairobi. In this role, you will serve as the primary mechanical engineering expert overseeing the quality assurance and technical management of a major construction initiative at the U.S. Embassy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
You will provide comprehensive engineering oversight and construction quality assurance across all mechanical aspects of the project. Your core duties will include conducting detailed technical inspections of mechanical installations, verifying contractor compliance with design specifications and applicable U.S. building codes, and monitoring the contractor's quality control program throughout construction.
On a daily basis, you will observe onsite construction activities to ensure mechanical elements are being properly installed and executed according to design parameters. You will review and analyze shop drawings and submittals from the contractor, evaluate compliance with contract requirements, and identify any coordination issues between engineering disciplines. When problems arise, you will assess proposed remedies and recommend solutions to project leadership.
Your technical responsibilities extend to reviewing engineering drawings and specifications prepared by the design team, interpreting design documents within your discipline, and conducting quality assurance inspections specific to mechanical systems. You will evaluate contractor-proposed substitutions, coordinate the development of cost estimates for modifications and change orders, and prepare responses to Requests for Information.
You will monitor construction progress against the project schedule and produce weekly progress reports documenting project status, construction achievements, and any issues identified during field inspections. Additionally, you will prepare monthly progress reports with emphasis on engineering developments and coordinate with the Project Director and Construction Manager on all technical matters.
