Job Description

SENIOR PEOPLE PARTNER About This Role M-KOPA is recruiting a Senior People Partner to lead people strategy and operations across Kenya, our largest and oldest market. You'll be positioned to make real commercial impact by translating our explosive growth—we're onboarding 10,000 customers daily across all markets and have reached 10 million customers—into intelligent people decisions that keep teams scaling effectively. This isn't a process-focused HR position. You'll work directly with business leaders to solve operational workforce challenges: headcount planning, organisational structure, performance management, and cost optimisation tied to actual business outcomes. You'll own employee relations for your client group end-to-end, supported by working knowledge of Kenyan employment law. You'll also drive organisational change initiatives, from restructuring through process redesign and cross-functional delivery. What You'll Bring You'll need 5-8 years of progressive HR and People Partner experience, with demonstrated success advising business leaders on workforce decisions linked to commercial results—not simply administering policy. You must have working knowledge of Kenyan employment law and regulatory requirements, plus hands-on experience resolving employee relations matters independently. Ideally, you have a track record contributing to organisational design, workforce planning, or performance frameworks. What matters most: your instinct is business-first. You think in terms of commercial trade-offs, risk, and growth rather than policy precedent. Your strongest stories involve navigating budget constraints toward smart people decisions or making calls that served the business even when they weren't textbook HR answers. About M-KOPA M-KOPA drives financial inclusion for traditionally excluded communities across Africa through flexible, fair, customer-centric financing. We've unlocked over $2 billion in credit, served 10 million customers, created 35,000+ agent livelihoods, and helped 2.5 million people access smartphones for the first time. We've been recognised by the Financial Times as one of Africa's fastest-growing companies for five consecutive years (2022-2026), named a TIME 100 most influential company, and featured on CNBC's World's Top Fintech Companies list. Your Team You'll join M-KOPA's Africa People Partnering function, an established team covering Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, South Africa, Ghana, and Global Functions. Report into our People Director and work alongside fellow People Partners. This is genuine growth opportunity—the function is expanding in scope and complexity, with clear pathway to Lead People Partner as you build track record and impact. What We Offer Full-time hybrid role based in Kenya with direct access to Kenya's leadership team. You'll collaborate with our global People team across Africa and Europe, access professional development and coaching partnerships, and benefit from family-friendly policies and flexible working arrangements. We prioritise wellbeing support and genuine career growth opportunities. Equal Opportunities M-KOPA is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. We actively encourage applications from women, minorities, and people with disabilities. We prohibit forced labour and child labour, respect voluntary employment agreements, and never charge recruitment, processing, interview, or any other fees. Pre-employment background checks (including criminal records, identification, qualifications, employment dates, and references) form part of our recruitment process. Ready to shape people strategy at one of Africa's fastest-growing fintechs? Apply now. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with interviews occurring throughout the process. We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if an exceptional candidate is selected.
