Job Description

SHOVEL OPERATOR Sokify is partnering with TWYFORD INTERNATIONAL (Kenya) to recruit a skilled and safety-conscious Shovel Operator to join their dynamic operations team. ABOUT THE ROLE You will operate a wheel loader equipped with interchangeable blade and bucket attachments, playing a crucial role in keeping production moving. Your primary focus will be loading, transporting, stacking, and feeding raw materials into the production process while maintaining the highest safety and operational standards. This position ensures a steady supply of materials to production areas and supports the overall efficiency of plant operations. WHAT YOU'LL DO Day-to-day, you will operate the shovel and its dual blade/bucket attachments according to production schedules and supervisor direction. You'll be responsible for moving materials within plant facilities and storage yards, positioning them accurately, and managing stockpiles to minimize loss, contamination, and spillage. You will feed raw materials into hoppers, crushers, and other designated production areas while ensuring the correct materials reach the right locations in the required quantities. Equipment care is equally important. You'll conduct thorough pre-operation and post-operation inspections daily, checking fuel, hydraulic oil, engine oil, tires, brakes, lights, and warning systems. Any equipment issues must be reported immediately so maintenance teams can respond quickly. Keeping the shovel clean and in safe working condition is an ongoing responsibility. Safety is non-negotiable. You will follow all company safety procedures and traffic regulations, wear required personal protective equipment at all times, and work safely around pedestrians, vehicles, and production equipment. You'll actively participate in safety meetings and training, and promptly report accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR You must hold a Secondary School Certificate (KCSE) or equivalent, along with a valid operator's certificate for heavy equipment operation and a valid Class G driving license. A minimum of two years operating a shovel or wheel loader in manufacturing, mining, construction, quarrying, or industrial settings is essential. Experience handling bulk raw materials is a strong advantage. Technical skills matter: you need the ability to safely and efficiently operate a shovel with dual attachments, solid knowledge of material handling and stockpile management, and basic mechanical knowledge for equipment inspection. You should have a genuine understanding of workplace safety practices, the ability to perform under pressure while meeting production targets, good communication and teamwork abilities, sharp attention to detail, and operational awareness. Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays when required is necessary. WORKING ENVIRONMENT You'll work in outdoor and indoor manufacturing environments, exposed to dust, noise, heat, and varying weather conditions. Protective equipment is provided. The role involves prolonged periods of sitting while operating heavy equipment and requires you to work rotating shifts.
