TAX MANAGER Department: Finance & Legal Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time Location: Nairobi, Kenya ABOUT THE ROLE Sun King is searching for a strategic and commercially astute Tax Manager to lead comprehensive direct and indirect tax compliance, reporting, and planning across Kenya while coordinating tax operations throughout the East African region, including Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, and Madagascar. This is a key position for someone with deep expertise in Kenyan tax legislation and practical knowledge of evolving tax frameworks across the East African Community. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Kenya Tax Compliance & Reporting You will manage the full lifecycle of Kenyan statutory tax filings including Corporate Income Tax, Value Added Tax, Withholding Tax, and Pay As You Earn returns in accordance with Kenya Revenue Authority standards and eTIMS/TIMS requirements. Beyond compliance, you will deliver strategic tax advisory on business operations, product initiatives, and intercompany arrangements. Your role encompasses managing tax audits and disputes with the KRA, serving as the primary organizational contact throughout investigations and appeals, and overseeing current and deferred tax accounting for financial statements under IFRS and GAAP standards. East Africa Regional Tax Coordination Working collaboratively with finance teams and external advisors across the region, you will ensure timely and compliant local tax filings while developing integrated tax strategies that enhance efficiency and align with EAC harmonization objectives. You will supervise transfer pricing documentation to maintain compliance across jurisdictions and minimize dispute risk. This includes advising on cross-border transactions, services delivery, and personnel movement while monitoring legislative developments and their operational impact. Strategic & Operational Leadership You will drive continuous improvement in tax processes, systems, and controls to boost efficiency and accuracy. Close collaboration with Finance leadership, Legal, and business managers across the region will be essential, alongside preparing detailed tax analyses, policy documentation, and training materials for finance and operational staff. You will mentor junior team members, building their technical tax capabilities. WHO YOU ARE You hold a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and possess a Certified Public Accountant Kenya qualification or equivalent professional credential such as ACCA or ACA. A postgraduate qualification in Taxation enhances your candidacy. You bring a minimum of five years in corporate tax roles with substantial Kenyan and East African experience, ideally from a Big Four firm or multinational organization. Your technical foundation includes comprehensive knowledge of Kenyan and East African Income Tax Acts, VAT legislation, regional tax frameworks, treaties, and core EAC compliance requirements. You demonstrate exceptional data analysis, problem-solving judgment, and proven success managing KRA audits and negotiations. You communicate complex tax concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders and senior leadership in English, with proficiency in tax compliance software and financial accounting platforms.
