Job Description
Technical Writer – Behavioural and Social Drivers Survey Manuscripts and Knowledge Products
UNICEF, Nairobi, Kenya | Global Health Practice Centre of Excellence
Contract Duration: 25 May 2026 – 30 June 2026 | 35 Days | Remote | International Applicants Only
About This Opportunity
UNICEF operates across 190 countries and territories, working to protect children's rights and help them thrive from early childhood through adolescence. We are seeking an experienced technical writer to lead the development of scientific manuscripts and knowledge products based on the Behavioural and Social Drivers (BeSD) research initiative.
Your Role
As our Technical Writer, you will work closely with the Global Health Practice team to transform BeSD study findings into publication-ready manuscripts and policy-relevant knowledge products. Your responsibilities will include:
Reviewing and synthesising research materials, datasets, reports, and background documents from eight country-specific BeSD studies
Developing comprehensive structural outlines for manuscripts, including framing, research questions, and key messages
Drafting eight country-specific manuscripts, each grounded in rigorous analysis and tailored to target journal standards
Creating a cross-country synthesis manuscript that identifies patterns across findings and articulates implications for global immunization policy and practice
Conducting focused literature reviews to strengthen the contextualisation and positioning of research findings
Designing figures, tables, and data visualisations that effectively communicate results
Managing multiple review cycles with UNICEF teams, partners, and co-authors
Guiding manuscripts through peer-review processes and managing editor and reviewer feedback toward publication
Ensuring all outputs meet accessibility standards and align with UNICEF's knowledge translation and policy advocacy objectives
What We're Looking For
You hold a Master's degree in Social and Behavioural Science, Science Communication, Scientific Writing, or a closely related discipline.
You bring a minimum of seven to ten years of professional experience in scientific writing, research translation, or knowledge management within global health, immunization, or related sectors.
You have a demonstrated track record of drafting and publishing peer-reviewed manuscripts, including leading submissions to high-impact journals or supporting others through the publication process.
You understand behavioural and social drivers of health outcomes, ideally with expertise in immunization, vaccine demand, or public health programming.
You excel at synthesising complex quantitative and qualitative datasets into clear, compelling narratives that resonate with both academic and policy audiences.
You have practical experience working with multi-country research data and translating findings into comparative, cross-national analyses.
You are proficient in data visualisation and can create publication-quality figures, tables, and graphical representations.
You communicate with excellence in written and spoken English and can effectively adapt your message for diverse audiences spanning academic researchers and policy decision-makers.
What Will Set You Apart
You manage multiple projects simultaneously, work autonomously, and thrive under tight deadlines within complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
You can provide at least three relevant writing samples—peer-reviewed articles, reports, or knowledge products—that clearly show your contribution and demonstrate analytical depth, writing quality, and clarity of expression.
Our Commitment to You
At UNICEF, we value diversity, foster professional development, and create space for your career to flourish. We offer competitive compensation and benefits packages alongside meaningful work that directly supports vulnerable children and communities worldwide. We invite applicants from all backgrounds who are ready to bring their expertise, passion, and commitment to our mission.
